Connect with Clay offers free pottery classes for
military-connected community members.
Being affiliated with the military comes with unique challenges. At the Virginia Beach Art Center, we believe that exploring your creativity can help you face those challenges.
Connect with Clay is a free program designed exclusively for military-connected members of our community. Thanks to a generous grant, we can offer these classes at no cost to you. Connect with Clay will give you the opportunity to connect with others who are also military-affiliated.
Clay is a unique medium that is both calming and invigorating. Not only is it fun to get your hands in mud, but it's exciting to learn how to throw a bowl on the wheel!
These beginner-friendly, two-week classes are offered in our light-filled pottery studio. Week one introduces participants to wheel throwing and hand-building techniques using clay. Week two tackles glazing and surface-design techniques. Your pieces will then be fired and finished by our expert pottery staff.

Important things to know:
- Connect with Clay classes are free and supplies are included.
- Eligible participants include Active Duty, Guardsmen, Reservists, Retirees, Veterans, Dependents, and members of a Family Readiness Group (FRG). If you are unsure that you qualify, please contact us.
- Participation is limited to one Connect with Clay class per person.
- Each class has two sessions and participants are expected to attend both classes.
- For family classes, there is a limit of 2 children per adult. For safety reasons, children must be 8 years or older.
- Adult classes are for ages 18+
- To register you will need the name, phone number, email, and date of birth for each participant.
- If you must cancel, please inform us no less than 5 days in advance to be eligible to participate in a future class.
- No-shows will not be allowed to register for a future class.
- All participants are expected to complete a follow up survey.
