Show Off!
Our Annual National Show. The Virginia Beach Art Center (VB-AC) presents a nation-wide showcase which gives artists an opportunity to submit their very best pieces without begin bound by a theme. Artists from Alabama to Wyoming and all US territories are invited to show off their personal best. What will you choose?

Awards: Prize money totals $2,000.  ​

  • 4 Honorable Mentions: $100 each
  • VB-AC People's Choice Award:  $150
           (Awarded at the end of the exhibit).

Special Rules:    
  • Artists aged 18 and older, who reside in the United States or US territories.
  • All work must be original.  
  • Work needs to have been produced within the last five years and not previously exhibited at Virginia Beach Art Center. 
  • The Artist certifies that he/she created the works of art entered, has not infringed on any copyrights, possesses unencumbered title to them and has the right to loan and/or sell these works.

Eligibility: 
  • Artists aged 18 and older, who reside in the United States or US territories.

Entry Fee: 
  • $35 for up to three pieces 
  • There is a jury process; not all pieces may be accepted
  • Entry fee is non-refundable

To Submit: All entries and payments must be submitted via CaFe (callforentry.org).  
  • Go to the purple box on the right for directions on submission through CaFe.
  • It is the artist’s responsibility to check for the confirmation email (check junk folder) or check the status of entries in their CaFe account after the notification date.

Drop Off Art:
  • The deadline for drop off is Tuesday, February 28, 10 am to 4 pm. No works will be accepted after Tuesday at 5 pm. If you cannot drop off on Tuesday, please make arrangements with us for an EARLY drop off. 
  • Shipped works must be received February 23 - 26.
  • Non-local, hand-delivered works may be received February 25 - 27 by arrangement.
  • Local drop off February 28.  
  • Extra drop off available February 27 by arrangement. Email [email protected] to make arrangements.
  • Affix a label on the back of 2D artwork or under 3D artwork with Artist name and Title.
  • Exhibition posters and postcards/handouts will be available at drop off.

ATTENTION:  Read all rules below, but be aware of these common oversights:
  • Presentation must be professional and not detract from the artwork.  
  • Unframed pieces must have a professional finish, with clean lines and no visible staples on the sides of the canvas. 
  • Hanging wires must be tight across, and near the top 1/3 of the frame.
  • Artwork must be for sale and on view for entire exhibition.
  • PLEASE READ ALL GENERAL RULES at very bottom.

​Commission:   
  • The non-refundable entry fee is $35.00. 
  • Commission for works is 65% to the artist and 35% to the Artists Gallery. Payment for sales will be made within 30 days of the closing of the exhibition. The artist will be contacted if a W-9 is required.

Artist Talks:
  • ​Artist Talks (optional):  Sunday, April 2, from 3pm to 4pm.  Artists are invited to an informal "Artist Talk" to discuss their works with members of the public.  
  • Art may be taken home after 4 pm on Sunday, April 2, by those who participate in the Artist's Talk.
  • Absolutely no pickup before 4 pm on the last day of the show.

GENERAL RULES
  • This is a juried exhibition. 
  • One to three pieces can be submitted, but not all may be accepted.
  • Current original works only, not previously exhibited at any other Virginia Beach Art Center monthly exhibitions. 
  • Virginia Beach Art Center is a community gallery.  All artwork should be suitable for viewers of all ages.
  • All works must be free of copyright infringement.  It is the individual artist's responsibility to ensure that they are adhering to copyright requirements.  The Virginia Beach Art Center and The Artists Gallery are not liable for any copyright infringement issues that may arise.
  • Artworks, mats and frames must be in good and clean condition.
  • Unframed canvas must have a professional finish that does not detract from the art.  No visible staples. 
  • WIRE INSTRUCTIONS: All two-dimensional works must have a tight hanging wire, near the top 1/3 of the frame.  Wire must be attached to the frame and not the backing/canvas.   -NO EXCEPTIONS-
  • Works must be labeled on back with title, medium, price, artist name and phone number.
  • Size and weight limitations:  Width of 2D works is limited to 50 inches and 40 pounds or less.  The base of 3D works may not be more than 36" square.  Any 3D works over 40 lb. must be installed and moved by the artist.  Any exceptions to these limitations will be made on a case by case basis.  Please contact the exhibition coordinator before submitting. 
  • Works requiring special installation must be cleared in advance.
  • All works must be for sale and remain at the gallery  throughout the duration of the exhibition.
  • Artist will be notified of a sale.​
  • While staff and volunteers take great care with the artworks, the Virginia Beach Art Center and The Artists Gallery are not responsible and cannot be held liable for any damages to artworks before, during or after this exhibition.
  • ​Submitting your images is an indication that you give the Virginia Beach Art Center permission to use images of your art for promotional purposes.

How to Submit

Applying is a three-stage process. All steps must be completed to submit.

1. My Portfolio. Upload work samples.
2. Apply to Calls. Search calls and apply.
3. Checkout. Complete and checkout.

  • ​If this is your first-time using CaFE, click Artist Sign Up - CaFÉ (callforentry.org) - and complete the free registration form. You must be registered before you can log in and apply to a call for entry.
  • If you already have a CaFE account, click Login. CaFÉ (callforentry.org). Existing users may proceed to log in and apply to a call for entry. If you don’t remember your password, use the forgot password link.
  • Artists who are returning users to the CaFe site should be sure to check your primary contact information in your artist profile to ensure that a current email and phone is listed.  Double check for typos—we see this often!  (i.e., “[email protected]”)
